The One Thing
In Gary Kellers book “The One Thing” he talks all about focusing down to that One Thing you are going to do today that is the most important thing for you to get to your goals.
Well, that’s all well and great, but for most of us the thought of only doing “One Thing” today is fantasy land.
Most of us are probably thinking if I can get the list down to double digits then I’d be happy.
The message is hidden in the “One Thing” is to be focused.
Focus on doing one thing at a time.
If you put away the distractions and focused on one thing at a time, how much more would you get done?
Start with a clean slate
When you get to work don’t go and make a coffee, OKAY so most of you have switched off now and immediately thrown this in the too hard basket, but try and bear with me. (You can still get your coffee)
Have a toolbox meeting with yourself instead of the coffee
Take 10 minutes out to plan out the 2 or 3 really important things that you need to get done today
Understand success, what is it exactly you want to get done.
Solving world peace cannot be achieved today, but if we were nice to someone, we don’t know that could be one small step towards a massive goal.
Make an appointment with yourself and be rude about it. Don’t let others disturb you in these blocked out times.
This is important; these are the things that you know need to get done, so make sure they get the highest priority.
Block out time in your diary to do those 2 or 3 things, be realistic don’t block out too much but make sure you block out enough to finish the task
Now go and get your cup of coffee but don’t miss your appointment with yourself
