Keep Your Hips Square
Have you drifted away from your goals?
One of the basic skills in coaching kids at rugby is running straight.
It’s very common when kids are running and passing they tend to stray across towards the target they are passing to.
The reason for this is they tend to turn towards the person they are thinking about passing to instead of keeping their hips square towards the real target the try line.
By drifting towards the person they are intending to pass the ball to can create a lot of problems especially for the person they are passing to who is being forced closer and closer to the sideline. They could also miss a lot of potential opportunities that could be straight in front of them. Not to mention it actually takes them away from the real goal of the try line.
This can happen to a lot of us in business, instead of keeping our hips square we find ourselves drifting off sideways but in business there is no sideline, we can just keep drifting away from our goals.
Have you ever found yourself thinking I didn’t think it would take this long to get there?
Have you ever thought that maybe you will never reach your goals?
Perhaps your hips aren’t square.
Playing straight and keeping our “hips square” is really hard in business, there are so many things to distract us and before we know it, we are drifting off again.
Here are 3 hacks to keep your hips square
- Write down your goal in a diary or on a wall or somewhere you can see it and read it everyday
- Before you take on a new project check if it is taking you towards your goal. If it is it goes on your “A” or “B” list, if it isn’t put it on your “C” list or leave it off altogether.
- Don’t get emotionally attached to your decisions, if a decision you made is taking you away from your goal then make another one – “Stop”
If you want to score the try then keep your hips square and keep going towards your goal.
IF you need help reach out, sometimes keeping your hips square isn’t that easier
